19 August: Two Bhutanese students, a 25-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were killed on the spot in Bangalore, when the motorcycle they were riding collided head on with a Tata truck, a vehicle similar to the Tata sumo.

The incident occurred on Monday at around 1:25 am on the Bangalore-Mysore highway, about 70 km away from the city, said a final year student, Jamyang Namgyal.

The Bhutanese students association (BSA) president Yenten said that the accident occurred when they were trying to overtake the truck.

Local police on patrol found the body of the man around 1:35 am. He was wearing a helmet but had died after suffering multiple injuries. His body was taken to Channapatna government hospital.

The body of the woman was found only in the morning at around 6:00 am as she was thrown off the flyover, said Yenten. “Doctors said she suffered injuries on her skull.”

The woman was a second year bachelor’s in computer application (BCA) student of CMR institute of management studies college, while the man was a 2007 graduate from Acharya college. “He had come to get information for his MBA course,” said Yenten.

On investigation, police found that they were not under the influence of alcohol. “They had just gone for a ride because the traffic was thinner during that hour,” said Yenten.

BSA members met yesterday to pray for the deceased. Families of both the victims have been informed and the bodies will be flown to Kolkata today.
