August 24: Out of the 34 body building enthusiasts, Wangchen, 32, is the new Mr. Thimphu. The 2nd National bodybuilding championship was held at the swimming pool complex last evening.
Twenty four-year-old Lobzang bagged the gold in the light weight category. In the middle weight category, 29-year-old Sonam Dendup stood first.
There were 14 contestants in the lightweight category, 12 contestants in the middle weight category and eight contestants in the heavyweight category.
Energy consumption
The lightweight category is for people below 65 kilograms, middle weight for people below 75 kilograms and heavyweight for above 75 kilograms.
The championship was organized by the Bhutan Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Federation. The contestants were judged based on body symmetry and stage presence.
The Prime Minister, Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley, awarded certificates and cash prizes to the winners.
