India Embassy in Bhutan celebrates Independence Day

August 15: In Thimphu, Indian nationals working in Bhutan gathered at the Indian Embassy premises to celebrate the day. The celebrations began with the tradition of hoisting the Indian national flag.
At the function, the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan Pavan K. Varma read out the Indian President’s message. In her address to the nation, President Partibha Patil said the day is an occasion to recall the inspiring leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, whose noble principles of truth and non-violence won freedom for Indians.
President Partibha Patil said India must work ceaselessly to advance the country as a strong democracy that is economically vibrant and modern yet rooted in its old age values of harmony.
The message also highlighted the need for social empowerment, agricultural productivity, health, economy and global terrorism.
Following this, representatives of the royal government led by the Gyalpoi Zimpon offered Tashi Khaddar to the Indian Ambassador.
Also present were the Cabinet Secretary, the Chief of Protocol and other senior officials.
