From university to ministry

October 18: The World Bank’s private sector development project, the generic skills training component, will now be under the ministry of labour and human resources (MoLHR).

This was finalised after a memorandum of understanding was signed between MoLHR and the royal university of Bhutan (RUB) on October 14.

This will foster government’s effort towards equipping Bhutanese youth with market relevant skills in order to enhance their employability in the labour market, according to a press release from the department of human resource.

MoLHR will function as a lead agency in training 2350 school drop-outs and college students. “People will be trained as per the human resource requirement of the upcoming Thimphu TechPark project initiated by the ministry of information and communication,” the press release says.

The program will focus on training in English language, basic information technology, analytical and mathematic ability and inter-personal skills, which are required for the business process outsourcing industries.

The project, expected to end by December 2011, will be implemented with the support and direction from the department of information and technology’s project implementing agency.
