Bhutanese double gold medallist

23 August: A Bhutanese civil servant has been awarded two gold medals for topping the masters in public administration (MPA) examinations and his outstanding performance in the final year from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj (RTM), Nagpur university, Maharashtra, India.
Kinzang Dorjee, 32, assistant civil registration and census officer with the department of civil registration and census, ministry of home and cultural affairs, was awarded the Dadasaheb Patel memorial gold medal for topping the two-year course and the Silver Jubilee memorial gold medal for his outstanding performance in the final year.
Kinzang said that he had worked hard to live up to the expectations of all. “It’s only the hard work that takes one to the highest level of excellence,” he told Kuensel. “This would not have been possible without the generous support of the government of India and the royal government.”
Kinzang Dorji was one of three Bhutanese students and 47 other Indian students pursuing the post-graduate course through a government of India scholarship at the RTM Nagpur university from 2006 to 2008.
Kinzang Dorjee of Phongmey gewog in Trashigang, joined the civil service in January 2003, after graduating with Dzongkha honours from the institute of language and cultural studies, Semtokha.
“This ministry is proud of having him with us,” said the home secretary, Dasho Penden Wangchuk.
