September 26: The country’s fifth newspaper, Business Bhutan, hits the newsstands today. Bhutan’s first financial paper is a 40-page weekly, tabloid size, 252 by 355 mm, costing Nu 15, and will be published every Saturday. “There is a lack of focus in business and analysis on business stories,” said Business Bhutan editor, Tashi Dorji. “We’ll attempt to simplify business news so that everyone will be able to understand.” Eight of Business Bhutan is in Dzongkha. September 24: Government offices, schools and institutions in Thimphu dzongkhag will be closed today to observe Thimphu Domchhoe. The Lham Tsom dance, dedicated to Palden Lhamo (goddess Mahakali) will be performed in the courtyard of Tashichhodzong today. The sacred ceremony, dedicated to appease the protecting deity Pelden Lhamo, was instituted between 1705 and 1709 by Kuenga Gyaltshen, the first reincarnation of Jampel Dorji, son of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Bhutan seismic hazard status

September 24: The Indian institute of technology in Rourkee, India, has done a seismic hazard map of Bhutan showing, for the first time, hazard zones in the event of an earthquake. According to the map (see image), Thimphu, Paro, Punakha, Bumthang and Trongsa valleys fall in low and moderate hazard areas, while Haa, Chukha, Trashigang, Mongar, Lhuentse and Trashiyangtse and the southern dzongkhags are in high and very high risk areas. Biking expedition to cement bilateral relationship

September 17: A four member team called “Kewkradong Bangladesh,” a youth based organisation in Bangladesh is in the Kingdom on a cycling expedition. The team was flagged off at this morning from the Clock Tower Square. The team will ride from Thimphu to Trashigang. September 16: It is not reflected in the calendar, but September 22 will be a national holiday, says the home ministry. The Cabinet yesterday approved the home ministry’s recommendation to reinstate Thrue Bab, which, along with the much-celebrated national holiday Nyen Pa Guzom, was cancelled in 2007 from the national holiday list. Belgian ambassador presents credentials

September16: His Majesty the King accepted the credentials presented by the new Ambassador of Belgium to Bhutan, Jean Marie Deboutte, at the Tashichhodzong yesterday. His Majesty also granted an audience to the Ambassador after the presentation of the credentials. HM grants audience to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India

September 15: His Majesty the King granted an audience to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India Mr Vinod Rai today. He arrived in the Kingdom on a four day goodwill visit on Monday. Mr Rai took over as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India in January last year. Prior to that he served as the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance. September 15: Film lovers are in for a treat next week because the Embassy of Japan, New Delhi, in coordination with JICAICA Bhutan Office will conduct the 10th Japanese Film Festival in Thimphu, Punakha and Paro.
