NFP programme wins 2009 UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy

August 5: The Non-Formal Education (NFE) programme of the Education Ministry has been awarded the Honourable Mention of the 2009 UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy for its holistic approach to literacy and its success in reaching remote areas. Bharti-Airtel in Bhutan

5 August: International internet connectivity just got more reliable with the launching of the Bharti Airtel-Tashi InfoComm fibre link yesterday. The government and the Indian telecom firm, Bharti Airtel, also signed an agreement to establish a fibre optical cable network till Phuentsholing, and to add a second connection point at Gelephu by 2011. Ferring Group donates US$ 3 million to Royal Textile Academy

August 3: The chairman of the Ferring Group, based in Switzerland donated US$ 3 million to the Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan on July 31. The cheque was handed over by the Chairman, Dr Frederik Paulsen to Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck in Switzerland.
